The Story of Bobo consists of two animated short films Be HIV free and Be AWARE, take CARE.
Be HIV free tells in a simple way how the hiv-virus works inside the human body.
Be AWARE, take CARE shows how medicines (antiretrovirals or ARV’s) work inside the body and what happens if you do not take your medicines on time or stop taking them.
The many questions about the hiv-virus raised by children, adolescents and adults who played the game LOVE.check inspired the idea for the animated films. Originally, the animations were made for children in South Africa, but they proved suitable to a much wider audience. By now, there are versions in over 20 different languages.
Every culture, population or family has different views on sexual relations. What is said in the animations about, for instance, ABC is just one of many ideas that are out there. At the time these films were made, ABC (abstinence, be faithful and use a condom) was the most common form of prevention. It goes without saying that your norms and values regarding a healthy sexual relationship are yours to determine, as long as the opinions, health and rights of adults and children are respected.
